Walk-In Clinic vs Urgent Care: What’s the Difference?
Walk-in clinics and urgent care centers both accept patients without appointments, but they serve different needs. Here’s how to choose.
Walk-In Clinics
Walk-in clinics (often in pharmacies or retail settings) handle very minor conditions: colds, routine vaccinations, physicals, minor rashes, and prescription refills. They’re typically staffed by nurse practitioners and are lower cost ($50–$100).
Urgent Care Centers
Urgent care centers can handle more complex issues: injuries needing X-rays or stitches, infections, IV fluids, lab work, and conditions that need a physician’s assessment. They cost more ($100–$200+) but can treat a wider range of conditions.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose a walk-in clinic for: routine illness, vaccinations, physicals, prescription refills. Choose urgent care for: injuries, moderate illness, anything needing diagnostics or a physician.
